Freebies
Clerkenwell
Went for wander round Clerkenwell, saw London's oldest Hospital and church. Both right next to each other, I guess in those days it was a good idea to pray for your loved ones in hospital considering their surgical techniques and hygiene standards at the time. It is a very old part of London but unfortunately was heavily bombed during the war so most of the area is ugly postwar buildings. There are some picutes in the Clerkenwell gallery.
Jongleurs Comedy Club
I guess there is an upside to working for a large multinational corporation, if you are friends with the marketing department. I am friends with Satinder who is in charge of corporate hospitality. He was given some free tickets to Jongleurs Comedy Club. He had two spare so Lou and I snapped them up. When we arrived there was a red carpet and complementary glass of champers. At our table we were served a three course meal and free champagne while it lasted. There were eight acts, all have been on TV, one on Fame Academy, I am told (we don't have a TV). All were very good. A wide range from standard stand up to a guy with a double bass that he doesn't play, a very cleaver dancer and a gay guy who could sing like Alison Moyet perfectly, spooky. A great night out for free!

Lou here. On the subject of freebies....I had the great pleasure, or not, depending on the person I was viewing, to see the above in near naked form. Joshua Jackson (of Dawson's Creek fame) and Patrick Stewart (Star Trek - The Next Generation and X Men) are starring together in a David Mamet play called 'A Life in the Theatre'. My team at work were shouted to a free dinner and tickets to the show to celebrate the success of a recent project. Patrick played a mature actor who was passionate about the theatre and keen to pass on his pearls of wisdom to younger actors but heading towards the end of his career. Joshua played a young actor on the up and up who at first hangs on Patrick's every word of advice but after a while sees him as an aging actor who is slowly losing it. The play was amusing and light hearted, unlike the harder hitting 'Oleanna' which we saw last year. I enjoyed it, especially the scenes when Joshua stripped down to his gruts. Hmmmmm. Hello Pacey :)
